TAG Heuer is having a busy year this year. Following LVMH Watch Week 2025 in January and Watches & Wonders Genève in April, the brand is now participating in Geneva Watch Days 2025 for the first time. TAG Heuer’s debut showcase features three new products, each carrying the hallmark of a “first.”

The first is the moonphase complication, a long-awaited return from TAG Heuer. Back in the Heuer days, the company released a variety of moon-related complications, including moonphases and even the Soluna for reading tides. However, after the rebranding as replica TAG Heuer, the moonphase disappeared for a while. Just as everyone was becoming accustomed to the absence of a moonphase in the TAG Heuer collection, it made a surprising return at this year’s Geneva Watch Days. The new Carrera is named Astronomer, a name that means “astronomer.”
The new product is said to have been inspired by the stopwatch (Ref. 2915A) worn by John Glenn, the first Swiss watch to go into space with Friendship 7 (Mercury-Atlas 6) in 1962. The moon phase that TAG Heuer is introducing after a long time is unusual. Most moon phases directly show the shape of the moon by rotating the moon-shaped disk. In contrast, the dial of the Carrera Astronomer is densely decorated with the phases of the moon. The indicator in the center indicates the current phase of the moon for each 29.5-day cycle. The moon phase indicator displays the image, period, and name of each phase of the moon. Thanks to this, you can know the current phase of the moon in detail, true to the name of an astronomer.
Beyond the moonphase disc are applied Arabic hour indexes and a minute track painted in a distinctive color. The accent colors vary between the regular and limited editions: the regular version is black, while the limited edition is available in 5N rose gold and gray. The case is a traditional Carrera design with angled lugs. It measures 39mm in diameter and 12.16mm thick.
The movement is the automatic Caliber 7. The frequency is 4Hz, and the power reserve has been increased to approximately 56 hours thanks to improvements to the base movement, the Sellita SW300. The straps are distinguished by the color of the dial accents. The black version is paired with the Beads-of-Rice bracelet introduced at Watches & Wonders this year, the 5N rose gold version with a Beads-of-Rice bracelet featuring a colored center link accent, and the gray version is paired with a leather strap matching the color of the accents.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Astronomer Steel & 5N Rose Gold Combination and Gray version are each limited to 500 pieces. The domestic release prices are 6.82 million won for the Silver & Black version (Ref. WBX2110.BA0044), 10.35 million won for the Steel & 5N Rose Gold Combination version (Ref. WBX2111.BD0002), and 6.52 million won for the Silver & Gray version (Ref. WBX2112.FC6615).

The second is a new product equipped with a new hairspring. Hairsprings, a key component of mechanical movements, were previously made of iron. Iron was not only sensitive to temperature changes, but also, due to its ferromagnetic nature, was highly susceptible to magnetism. With the advent of the Nivarox in the 1930s, the hairspring’s battle with temperature ended. However, because the Nivarox was also iron-based, it still faced the challenge of magnetism.
