Longines has added new versions to its iconic diver’s watch collection for 2025. The Legend Diver series, which was launched in 2023, continues its popular streak with the addition of the first white dial model in the 39 mm range, as well as a new type of black and blue rubber strap that perfectly matches the case shape.
The Longines Legend Diver, which succeeded the brand’s first Super-Compressor diver’s watch in 1959, became a bestseller immediately after its re-launch in 2007 with its unique retro style and reasonable price. Following the long-loved 42mm size, a unisex 36mm version was followed, and in 2023, a 39mm size that satisfies both classic and universal requirements was added, capturing the hearts of diver replica watches fans around the world. At the time of its launch, it was only available with two color dials: black and dark blue, and a stainless steel bracelet or leather and NATO strap options. The following year, in 2024, green, terracotta, and anthracite gray color dial versions were added, and this year, for the first time, a white dial version is also being introduced. The previous 36mm lineup also had a white variation, but because the dial material was mother-of-pearl, it had a much stronger image as a women’s model. The new 39mm white dial has a matte finish like black and blue, staying true to the original character of a diver’s watch while appealing with a clean impression that both men and women prefer.
The stainless steel case with satin-brushed and polished finishes measures 39 mm in diameter and 12.7 mm thick, the same size as the previous black or blue dial versions. The front glass features a domed sapphire crystal with a nearly boxy shape, which emphasizes the retro mood that runs through the collection and is treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides to ensure clear readability without distortion from any angle. Featuring two screw-in crowns, the case is water-resistant to 300 m and has been tested for overpressure of +25% according to the ISO 6425 standard, meeting the basic requirements of a professional diver’s watch.
Like the previous 39 mm black, blue, green, terracotta and anthracite grey dial versions, the date window is omitted to maintain the characteristic clean look. The Arabic numerals and the baton indexes, front or back, and the centre of the hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, a special luminescent paint, to ensure sufficient readability in any environment. On the outside of the dial, there is an internal bidirectional rotatable bezel with 60-minute graduations, which has been inseparable from the Legend Diver, first introduced by replica Longines in 1936. It is operated via the screw-in crown at 2 o’clock. Compared to the typical exposed sports/diver watch bezel, it offers a much more classic feel while protecting the watch from external impacts and preventing accidental operation in the harsh diving environment.
The movement is the same automatic Caliber L888.6 as the previous version. Based on the reliable ETA 2892, the ETA A31. L11 with a revised frequency (25,200 vibrations per hour, 3.5 Hz) has a silicon balance spring that is not affected by magnetism (ensuring high anti-magnetic performance exceeding the ISO 764 standard by more than 10 times) and the power reserve has been upgraded to approximately 3 days (72 hours). It is a movement exclusive to Longines within the Swatch Group and has even been certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Institute (COSC). Instead of exposing the movement with the screw-type solid case back, the characteristic symbol of the Legend Diver, which depicts a diver holding a harpoon, is embossed on the center of the case back, continuing the tradition of the series.
The steel bracelet, also known as the Beads-of-Rice, is connected by small, flexible links in the shape of rice grains, contributing to an excellent fit on the wrist. It is also equipped with a double-safety folding clasp with a push button type that can be finely adjusted, making it easy to put on and take off, and convenient to wear over a diving suit in an actual diving environment. On the other hand, the black or blue rubber strap is equipped with a steel diver pin buckle.
The domestic launch price of the new Longines Legend Diver 39mm product is set at 5.3 million won for the matte white dial steel bracelet version (Ref. L3.764.4.16.6), and 4.9 million won for the two rubber strap versions in black (Ref. L3.764.4.50.9) and blue (Ref. L3.764.4.90.9).
